The Drafting Technology Diploma program prepares the student to work as an AutoCAD designer or drafter in the areas of architecture and mechanical drafting.
Drafters prepare technical drawings and plans used by production and construction workers to build everything from products such as toys, toasters, industrial machinery, and spacecraft to structures such as houses, office buildings, and oil and gas pipelines. Drafters' drawings provide visual guidelines; show the technical details of the products and structures; and specify dimensions, materials, and procedures. Almost every company that is involved with design and/or manufacturing has one or more design/drafting positions with the majority of companies using AutoCAD as their computerized drafting package.
AutoCAD software is used as the primary CAD tool, but introductory exploration in alternative software packages, such as 20-20 Kitchen and Bath Design and Chief Architect, is also included.
Typical Coursework Includes:
- Mechanical Graphics
- Architectural Graphics
- Kitchen and Bath Design
- 2D Design
- 3D Design
