Position Announcement

POSITION:

Part-time Patient Care Assisting (PCA) Instructor

(see attachment for listing of available position)

EMPLOYMENT DATE:

2010-2011 school term

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

AHS 103, EMP 1000:  Some college or specialized training with an emphasis on competency gained through work experience.  Must have special competencies in the teaching discipline.

AHS 109: Bachelor’s degree in an allied health field or associate’s degree in an allied health field and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline

CNA 100:  LPN or RN with at least one year experience in a long-term care setting and ‘Train the Trainer’ Certification or willingness to obtain.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior teaching experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under supervision of the department chairperson, provide professional instruction based on an approved course syllabus, provide individual academic assistance to students, and maintain class attendance and evaluation records. Responsible for compliance with all college policies and safety policies to ensure a positive learning environment for student instruction.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time position                                 
SALARY:

Salary for this position is commensurate with experience, credentials and the Technical College System of Georgia Salary Schedule.

Incomplete application packages will not be considered. A proficiency exam will be administered of 2007 Microsoft Office of all candidates selected for an interview.  Candidates must successfully complete a criminal background and motor vehicle investigation.

AHS 103—Nutrition and Diet Therapy

A study of the nutritional needs of the individual. Topics include: nutrients, standard and modified diets, nutrition throughout the lifespan, and client education.

Credentials:  Some college or specialized training with an emphasis on competency gained through work experience.  Must have special competence in the teaching discipline.

AHS 109—Medical Terminology for Allied Health Services

Introduces the elements of medical terminology. Emphasis is placed on building familiarity with medical words through knowledge of roots, prefixes, and suffixes. Topics include: origins (roots, prefixes, and suffixes), word building, abbreviations and symbols, terminology related to the human anatomy, reading medical orders and reports, and terminology specific to the student's field of study.

Credentials:  Bachelor’s degree in an allied health field or associate’s degree in an allied health field and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline.

CNA 100—Patient Care Fundamentals

Introduces student to the occupation of Certified Nurse Assistant. Emphasis is placed on human anatomy and physiology, cardiac pulmonary resuscitation, and nutrition and diet therapy. Topics include: role and responsibilities of the Certified Nurse Assistant; topography, structure, and function of body systems; legal and safety requirements in the patient care field; equipment use and care; and performance skills standards and procedures.

Credentials:  LPN or RN with at least one year experience in a long-term care setting and ‘Train the Trainer’ Certification or willingness to obtain.

EMP 1000—Interpersonal Relations and Professional Development

Provides a study of human relations and professional development in today's rapidly changing world that prepares students for living and working in a complex society. Topics include: human relations skills, job acquisition skills, job retention skills, job advancement skills, and professional image skills.

Credentials:  Some college or specialized training with an emphasis on competency gained through work experience.  Must have special competence in the teaching discipline.

Classes meet Monday through Friday per high school calendars.  Various class times are available from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
